Donaire vs Darchinyan 2 Prediction – Filipino Flash To Bounce Back
By Niall Doran
What a year its being for boxing in 2013 and for me as a purist, probably my favourite fight of the year so far was Rigo’s silky master class points win over Nonito Donaire back in April. It obviously was not a great night for the Filipino Flash – but will he bounce back now? I certainly think so and with a bang too!
I’ve watched a lot of Nonito’s interviews in recent months since the loss to Rigondeaux and he strikes me as a very humble man who knows the value of hard work and dedication as much as any fighter out there. Let’s not forget too the year he had last year that saw him get voted fighter of the year, he’s still a special talent.
Rigondeaux was just a bit too good on the night and in my opinion there is no shame in losing to someone of the technical savy of Rigo who at the moment I’d probably rate pound for pound just behind Floyd and Ward if I’m honest. Donaire did have his moments in the fight but just didn’t have the type of all round game necessary to defuse a professor like Guillermo.
Its been a while since April now and I think the dust will have settled. He’ll also be moving up to featherweight so he won’t be killing himself to make 122 lbs anymore. I think a lot of people saying that his career has gone as far as it is ever going to go are certainly mistaken, he’s still only 30 and probably just coming into his prime.
He takes on an old foe this weekend in the always tough and game Vic Darchinyan. He stopped Vic inside 5 round back in 2007 and for me I can’t see it ending any different this time around, possibly even quicker as Donaire will have a fire lit under him and a point to prove.
For me – Donaire stoppage inside 7 rounds.
