David Price Blasts Out Late Replacement – In his first appearance under new promoters Sauerland, David Price returned to winning ways with an unsurprising 1st round stoppage. The Liverpudlian Heavyweight summoned the nerves following two stoppage defeats to Tony Thompson by dropping and stopping very late replacement Istvan Ruszinsky 12-10 (8) with a minute of the opening session to go.
Price was never in any trouble against his much shorter opponent who never got a look in against a Price that was not willing to slip up in the defensive department. After a tentative minute and a half, Price unleashed a one-two which sent Ruszinsky to the canvas and after rising he was adjudged to have been in no position to continue, and while he had little chance of causing an incredible upset, he did seem able to fight on, and possibly give Price more of a workout. This workout consisted of a few jabs and a big right hand, but it’s a win nonetheless.
Price now 16-2(14) will be looking to return to the ring pretty soon, and all his fans can rest assured that Sauerland will do a fine job with another Heavyweight prospect, something they have come accustomed to doing.
In an incredible main event Marco Huck defeated Firat Arslan for the 2nd time, defending his WBO Cruiserweight title. After the controversy surrounding the first fight, Huck left no doubt in another close fight when he halted Arslan in the 6th round. The fight took an identical pattern to the first encounter with Arslan walking through everything Huck could throw, closing the gap within seconds before unloading with his own punches.
With the bout going back and forth Huck hammered Arslan early in the 6th with an incredible right hand that shook the 43-year old down to his boots but still the gritty Arslan refused to go down before a barrage of punches sent him crashing into the ropes. Rising on wobbly legs Arslan managed to see off another volley of haymakers from Huck. Then just as Arslan seemed to have incredibly regained his senses Huck took him out with a wicked left hook. Arslan as expected rose from the canvas but several more right hands left the referee with no choice but to step between the fighters.
The night after such an incredible round between Cornelius White and Thomas Williams Jr, where White was floored twice and Williams hit the canvas once himself in one sensational round, Huck and Arslan produced another special occasion to re-instate that 2014 could well be just as good as the previous year.
Marcos Nader surrendered his unbeaten record and European Middleweight title when he lost a split decision to Emanuele Blandamura. Scores were 115-113 Nader and 115-113 & 117-111 to Blandamura.
Blandamura constantly outlanded Nader who looked far too much to set up combinations off the back of one solid shot. Instead when Nader did land flush, Blandamura would instantly return fire, never allowing Nader to tee-off. The final round where Blandamura still outworked Nader was a great indication of who wanted to win more.
Nader dropped to 18-1-1(3) while Blandamura moved to 22-0(5).
Elsewhere on the card Enrico Koelling’s work to the body was too much for the tough but outgunned Paata Aduashvili. Koeeling in control stopped Paata in the 3rd round after scoring 3 knockdowns. Koelling moved to 12-0(4), while Paata dropped to 8-3-2(5).
In a battle of unbeaten Cruiserweights the more versatitle Noel Gevor moved to 10-0(6) with a 7th round knockout of Loris Emiliani, now 10-1(7).
Tyron Zeuge also kept his perfect ledger with a 10 round points win against George Beroshvili who dropped to 10-1-2(4). Zeuge dropped Beroshvili early and dominated throughout for a shutout win to improve to 12-0(6).
