Sheffield Boxer Kid Galahad Now Commonwealth and European Champ
By Niall Doran
After a sensational performance at the weekend that saw Kid Galahad add the Commonwealth title to his European crown, I think its almost time for the Sheffield super bantamweight to now be stepped up with some really tough opposition.
He boxed beautifully on Saturday and really oozed class I thought. Granted his opponent was not a household name but Fred Mundraby I believed would have perhaps at least gone into the 2nd half of the fight. Not to be. Galahad was on song and now he must surely be starting to look at the likes of Carl Frampton, Kiko Martinez, Scott Quigg, Santa Cruz and division King Rigo. Granted I don’t think anyone would put him in with someone like Rigo at this point, as realistically he’d get torn to shreds. However a fight with Quigg or Martinez might be competitive if he sticks to those slick boxing skills he displayed at the weekend.
I think Carl Frampton and Santa Cruz would be just that bit too much for him at this point but you never know, with all the toing and froing going on at the minute between all the elite name fighters I have mentioned trying to get fights made with each other, if one were to miss out they may well see a European title fight with Galahad a viable keep busy fight.
It seems like there is a lot of mixed messages from different promoters at the moment when it comes to what fights are trying to be made in this absolutely electric division. Super Bantamweight for me is arguably the most on fire weight class from a world wide perspective currently, which is fantastic to see for boxing.
122 lbs has all the elements for a scintillating few years ahead – you’ve got the master in Rigo, the determined English man in Quigg, the sensational Carl Frampton, the exciting warrior Santa Cruz and now can add Sheffield Boxer Kid Galahad to that simply precocious list of pugilistic craft and talent!
