What Might Be Next For Tyson Fury And George Groves
George Groves and Tyson Fury would have been paying very close attention last weekend to the two respective world title fights.

Badou Jack stunned WBC Super Middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell will a majority decision win, while Klitschko scored his 18th consecutive Heavyweight title defence with a comfortable point’s victory over American Bryant Jennings.
Both Groves and Fury stand as mandatory challengers to Jack and Klitschko respectively and two summer showdowns look likely for the British pair.
Third time lucky for Groves?
It’s not only the WBC Silver champion George Groves that wants this fight, Badou Jack has expressed his desire to take on his mandatory challenger next as opposed to a rematch with Anthony Dirrell or a voluntary defence.
It shouldn’t be long before a date for purse bids are set and the two will have to tussle it out over where the fight will take place.
Jack, part of ‘The Money Team’, may look to take on Groves in September, possibly on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s next fight after Manny Pacquiao – should Mayweather fight till the end of his contract with Showtime. That would be a prospect that would be hard to refuse for Groves and his team – Groves is promoted by Sauerland Promotions – but they will likely push for a contest in the UK with Groves holding the cards in terms of drawing a crowd in his home country.
So the fight looks set to happen, it’s just the far from simple question of where and when.
George Groves would be in a world title fight for the third time in his 23 fight career, with the chance to win at the third time of asking – following two stoppage defeats at the hands of Carl Froch. A fight with Jack will tell us a lot more about just what effects those defeats to Froch have made.
Questions also still remain about the chin of Jack following a 1st round stoppage defeat to Derek Edwards last year.
With two quality boxers this makes for a fight that is tough to call, but with a lack of power this could prove a tough night for Jack to stamp authority on the contest, albeit he took a tight grip in the second half of his contest on Friday night with the usually aggressive Dirrell.
Long time coming for Fury
Tyson Fury is all but set to challenge the outstanding Heavyweight champion of the world, Wladimir Klitschko. Fury is the mandatory challenger for Klitschko’s WBO title and the governing body will set a 30 day negotiating period before the fight goes to purse bids should an agreement not be made.
Frank Warren’s hopes of staging the fight in a UK outdoor arena looks more likely after Wladimir fought in New York on Saturday, his first contest outside of Germany, Russia or Switzerland in 13 fights.
Despite no serious world championship opposition on his resume, many see Fury up there with Deontay Wilder as the two biggest challenges to Klitschko’s throne. His size, power and heart have worked for him so far in 24 fights and for the first time in some time Klitschko will be in the ring with someone who shares such similar physical advantages.
The fight is guaranteed to bring some much needed excitement back to the Heavyweight division in a fight that could have so many conclusions from an early knockout to 12 round chess match.
