Danny Garcia Vacates WBC Title
Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia has vacated his belt and stepped down as the WBC Super Lightweight Champion.

This comes as almost no surprise really, as Garcia has not defended his title since March 2014. Garcia is currently preparing to fight in a non-title fight against Paulie Malignaggi on August 1st. As a result, Garcia was faced with the decision of either vacating or being stripped.
It was falsely reported in some quarters that Garcia had been stripped. The World Boxing Council corrected the reports, stating that Garcia had in fact vacated their strap.
The WBC designated Garcia as WBC Champion Emeritus. This gives Garcia the opportunity to challenge and fight for the title once again in the future.
Garcia is still currently the WBA Super Lightweight champion. Garcia’s future with the title is still uncertain at this point in time.
