Floyd Mayweather, the undefeated, five-division world champion, has declared Gennady Golovkin cannot win a fight against him, even at his weight.

Mayweather watched the fight between Gennady Golovkin and Willie Monroe Jr. that took place on May 16, 2015 at The Forum in Los Angeles, California. Mayweather shook his head and gave a slight grin, saying, “Even at my weight, he can’t beat me.”

While Mayweather is confident in a win against the Kazakh-born boxer, Mayweather still gave regards to his credibility, “It’s obvious he’s doing something right” Mayweather admitted, “whoever they put in front of him, he beat ’em.” However, Mayweather also believes that had he been in Monroe’s camp, he believes that Monroe would’ve won the fight, “If I had worked with the guy, the guy could’ve beat him.”

Golovkin is, if anything, on a very similar boat as Mayweather. Golovkin, too, is undefeated and is a Super Champion as well. Known for his incredible punching power, Golovkin has one of the highest knockout percentages in boxing at 90.9%. To add to his even more impressive resume, since his fight against Malik Dziarra on November 22, 2008, none of his fights have reached all 12 or 10 rounds.

But is a Mayweather vs. Golovkin fight even possible? Maybe. But according to Floyd Mayweather Sr., the idea of the two fighting is ridiculous, with Mayweather Sr. even going as far as saying, “No, we not fixin’ the fight to fight no damn giant.” If the fight were to happen, however, Mayweather Sr. predicts that Mayweather Jr. would “take a lot of punches”, but nonetheless could win the fight.

With Mayweather’s retirement looming around the corner in September, prospects of his next and final opponent have come into question, with Golovkin being amongst the favorites. Other prospects include Amir Khan and a possible rematch with Pacquiao.
