We caught up recently with one of Ireland brightest boxing talents who now applies his trade Stateside under Golden Boy Promotions. Rising super middleweight star Jason Quigley (6-0, 6KO) is readying himself for his latest challenge on July 11th at the LA Sports Arena.

Life In The USA

Ahead of July 11th we spoke with Jason on how he finds American life thus far since he made the move for his pro boxing career and how he finds sunny California. Jason said:

“It’s amazing. The weather is fantastic, waking up every day with the sun shinning is absolutley amazing. No matter how bad the weather is at home, I miss that too, but always look forward to getting back to LA.”

Quigley talked of how although he loves the US, he does naturally miss his friends and family back home in the Emerald Isle from time to time:

“On my down time I do miss home, apart from that I’m very busy and focused on my fights I don’t have much time to think about it.  Aye, of course, miss my family a lot.”

Since hooking up with Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions last year to kick off his professional career, Jason has rattled off 6 impressive victories – all coming inside the distance.

An upbeat Quigley had great things to say about his new promoters, “It’s been brilliant. They have been keeping me busy and active. It’s a pleasure working and growing with them. I’m looking to the future. Everything is going to plan.”

Irish Boxing

Switching the topic of conversation to Irish boxing Jason mentioned he had been keeping a keen eye on Ireland’s recent successes in the European games, in particular a certain Katie Taylor.

Jason sang high praises of the phenomenal female boxer, “I have been keeping an eye on the team. I’m still very close to some of my former team mates.  I want to give a huge shout out to Katie Taylor. She has been amazing and is doing some huge things in the sport.”

When asked on who he thought the best Irish boxer of all time was Jason replied, “I would have to say Katie Taylor.  Because she has been so consistent. She is the reason women’s boxing is now in the Olympics.”

Full Steam Ahead July 11th

Touching on how training and work has been going ahead of his seventh professional outing on July 11th in LA, Quigley spoke of being in a really great place:

“Preparations have been smooth. I’m on my last week of camp, and I’m looking to finish strong and taper off towards fight week and get focused and ready for action.”

The talented 168 lbs rising star spoke of his focus on the matter at hand, but did also mention of possible fights one day again in his native Ireland:

“Right now I’m focused on Juy 11th, what ever comes after that I’ll be ready for.

It’s definitely in my future plans to come home and fight. I can’t express my excitement of one day coming home and bringing a huge fight for my fans there.”

No doubt fight fans in LA will be treated once again to the talented Irish man’s pugilistic exploits on July 11th.

Here’s a short clip of the man himself impressively doing his thing not long ago at one of the LA fight club shows:
