Back in action July 11th
The talented middleweight will be back in action at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena on the 11th of July against 24 year old Tom Howard (8-3, 4KO) from Mississippi.
The bout is on the under card for the Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera 21-5 (7KO) vs Hank Lundy (25-4-1, 12 KO) super lightweight bout for the vacant NABF Super Lightweight Championship.
Starting out as a pro
In April 2014 amateur standout Quigley made the decision to turn professional and signed a promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions in Los Angeles. After signing, Golden Boy president, Oscar De La Hoya said:
“Jason Quigley is part of the next generation of European boxers who are about to make their mark on the international stage, and we believe he has the skill and determination to go very far in the future.”
It also doesn’t hurt that he has the great nation of Ireland behind him, and I know they will support him wherever he goes.”
Quigley made his professional debut on July 12, 2014 against Howard Reece at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. He won the middleweight bout impressively via technical knockout, needing only 82 seconds of the first round.
The young man from Donegal scored his second professional win against Mexican fighter Fernando Najera, with the Mexican’s corner seeing enough and ending it in the third round.
Oscar De La Hoya was clearly delighted with Quigley’s showing and said at the time:
“Jason looked amazing in his fight against Najera, and we’re very pleased with his progress. You can tell immediately that he’s someone who knows the game, and his amateur background is serving him well as a professional. We will keep him busy and move him the right way, and I have no doubt that he will be a world champion one day.”
Building momentum
On October 30th, 2014, Quigley continued his unbeaten start to professional boxing. Fighting in Plymouth, Massachusetts against Greg McCoy.
Quigley again needed little time to make a statement, finishing the fight with a left hook, right straight combination sending McCoy to the canvas with just 2 minutes and 39 seconds of the 1st round – making it 3 from 3.
2015 would start the same as 2014 finished for Quigley with a win, in his 4th fight on the Golden Boy “LA Fight Club”, at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles.
Quigley’s opponent that time was Lanny Dardar, but it was business as usual and after 2 standing eight counts the inevitable stoppage come just 95 seconds into the first round to improve to (4-0, 4KO).
Two weeks later and Quigley was back in the ring against Tolutomi Agunbiade at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino California.
Stepping it up a gear in 2015 and beyond
A different fight but the script hadn’t changed, with another dominant performance from the young Irishman. After 1 minute and 43 seconds of round 2, the referee had seen enough and stopped the bout. Jason improved to 5 wins with 5 knockouts.
Then on the 30th of April, it was back to the familiar surroundings of Springs Resort Casino in California. The same venue, a different opponent – but the same result.
American Joshua “Berlin Bomber” Snyder, a fighter who had gone the distance with Matt Korobov in 2010 and with 21 professional bout under his belt, lasted just 43 seconds into the 2nd round of their fight, before finding himself canvas bound the result of a left right combination, taking Quigley to a perfect 6 wins 6 knockouts record.
Will it be seventh heaven for this talented fighter? It certainly could be.
Quigley looks unstoppable at this level and wouldn’t look out of place against the higher ranked fighters in the division.
You may not have heard of him yet but you soon will – he is definitely one to watch out for.
