Jhonny Gonzalez Smashes Hashimoto In 2

The Mexican slugger made short work of his Japanese opponent upon making a very successful debut at super featherweight on Saturday.

The big hitting Gonzalez showed there was plenty left in the tank in his native Mexico, where he improved his record to 58-9 (49 KO).

The 33 year old former 126lbs WBC titlist was looking to make a statement, having come off a hurtful loss back in March to the talented Gary Russell Jr.

Indeed he did.

In as early as the second round, Gonzalez landed one of his signature left hooks – which landed big on Kazuki Hashimoto from Japan.

Hasimoto was in no fit condition to continue and the referee rightfully waved off the fight.

What was impressive separate from the devastating looping left hook from Gonzalez, was his patient approach behind the jab to set it up, which was also mixed in with some nice right hands in a good display of punch variation.

Fighting in his native Mexico he received a huge round of cheers from a very excited partisan crowd in attendance. The move up to super featherweight really seems to have suited him.

The win on Saturday night also crowned Gonzalez as the new WBC Continental Americas super featherweight champion.
