UK 160lbs professional fighter Deano Gillen previews Anthony Joshua v Dillian Whyte and gives his take on who he thinks will emerge victorious on the night.

Underdog can bite in this one
Middleweight boxer, Dean Gillen (2-1) is favouring the underdog in the heavyweight battle of Britain this weekend in the country’s capital.
Olympic gold medallist, Anthony Joshua (14-0) puts his Commonwealth and WBC International titles on the line when he faces his nemesis, Dillian Whyte (12-0) for the vacant British heavyweight title on December 12th at the O2 Arena in London.
The two men have plenty of history, going back all the way to the amateur days, when Whyte came out on top that night:
Someone’s ‘0’ has got to go and with these two bangers in the ring together, and with their bad blood boiling over, it’s likely to be an early ending!
Technical analysis
The 33-year-old ‘Fighting Fireman’ from Nottingham gave Boxing News and Views his take on the highly-anticipated heavyweight showdown, and started off by stating:
“Fighters with history certainly adds fuel to the fire and this one is primed to go off with a bang!”
Deano said:
“Whyte convincingly beat big AJ as an amateur, even dropping the big fella. He’s been buckled as an amateur quite a few times, all while wearing head guards and using bigger gloves, consequently leaving a question mark over AJ’s largely untested chin as a pro, and Dillian the Villian will be more than willing to put it to the test!”
On tactics needed by Whyte, Gillen noted:
“Dillian is game and he needs to be if he’s going to win. In my opinion, his best chance is to push Joshua onto the back foot from the opening bell. He’ll need plenty of head movement while throwing meaningful punches in bunches, mixing it upstairs and downstairs as he attempts to walk Joshua down.”
Both men have power, but the fight stylistically could play out a bit differently to how others might suspect. Deano said:
“He carries power in both hands so if he manages to land a stunning blow then he will be looking to empty the tank and unload everything he has on Joshua in order to stop him! On the other hand, Joshua will obviously be trying to keep it long, he can move well too which will make it difficult for Dillian.”
On that note, Gillen added:
“He has serious power but, as Whyte pointed out, his power isn’t destructive one punch knockout type power, it’s more accumulative, which will give Dillian confidence moving forward. This fight will likely be fast and messy. Whyte doesn’t have the footwork required to out manoeuvre AJ like Fury did against Klitschko.”
Joshua v Whyte prediction
It’s a real ‘pick um’ fight, says Deano:
“So, I believe that Whyte will resort to storming in with those roundhouse punches of his and I can see him catching AJ early and rocking him. Despite the largely public opinion, a Joshua win is definitely not a foregone conclusion and I keep changing my mind on who prevails.”
Deano concluded with his final call, on who he’s backing as things stand:
“It’s a case of whoever lands first, but as it stands, I’m favouring Dillian Whyte to cause an upset – I love backing the underdog!”
