A touch of class and show of respect from two genuine warriors and gentlemen of the ring.

Recently Mikkel Kessler was being honoured at an awards ceremony that was shown on live Danish television, and an old rival turned friend dropped by as a pleasant surprise for the ‘Viking Warrior’ who retired with an admirable record of 46-3 (35KO), having only ever lost to three great champions – Carl Froch, Andre Ward and Joe Calzaghe.
Calzaghe and Kessler fought a closely contested and highly entertaining battle back in 2007 outdoors at the Millenium Stadium and although Calzaghe won a unanimous decision in the end, he was given all he could handle for 12 rounds from his Danish counterpart.
Almost a decade on the two remain good friends to this day, with Calzaghe a man regarded as Britain’s finest ever boxer heaping praise on Kessler:
“Mikkel is the greatest fighter I’ve ever boxed, I had to be at my best to beat Mikkel. Since then we’ve become friends so congratulations, a great fighter and an even better man.”
Here’s the moment Calzaghe surprised Kessler live on TV (hat tip to Boxing Tipster for the upload):
