Sean ‘Big Sexy’ Turner returns to action this week at Roadstone Club, Dublin. Turner is undefeated and has won 5 of his 7 pro fight’s by KO, Sean will headline the show on Friday with a packed undercard.

Sean has been looking for a step up in class and that’s what he will get on Friday. Paul Butlin will be the opposition Sean confirmed to Boxing News and Views during the week.
Butlin, who has been in with the likes of Anthony Joshua, Dereck Chisora and Lucas Browne will provide Turner with a tough night’s work and give Sean his toughest assignment yet. Sean told us
”He’s a tough lad. He brings guy’s good rounds. I won’t be expecting any knockouts, if the knockout comes it comes. I’m going to go out there to outbox him, out point him and win easy.”
Anybody who has seen Sean fight recently will notice a big change in his physique, he has trimmed down considerably and he puts it down to his training in Spain. Dublin was Sean’s base for this fight but he says in future he will be based in Marbella:
“Spain is great, you have it all at your feet out there. I worked with the strength and conditioning coach, worked with a nutritionist, it all just goes hand in hand. I trained in Dublin for this fight but I’ll be going back to Spain. I recently had a son so I wanted to be here at home.”
Sean carries real power too. Two of his last three fights have been finished in one round. Speaking on Butlin, Sean said:
”We got Paul Butlin in for that reason (to go rounds). He’s a tough guy and he will give me the rounds I need at this stage of the game.”
Away from this fight unless you have lived under a rock (if you are an Irish boxing fan that is) , you won’t have missed Sean Turner and Martin Rogan trading blows online, well verbally at least.
At the moment it’s the biggest fight in Irish Heavyweight boxing and all going well, we will see them face off this year. On the fight, ‘Big Sexy said:
“It will 100% happen at some stage, probably towards the end of the year. I just want to get an 8 rounder under my belt then the fight will be lined up. It would be a great fight for me, it’s a fight I will win. Martin Rogan is still a big name, there is a lot of interest in the fight and by the end of the year hopefully we can get it on.”
Anybody who has seen the pair trading words on Twitter will have seen Sean refer to a body shot in Belfast, Sean gave us the low down on what happened and on his rival Martin Rogan:
”It was just another day of sparring, I gave him a body shot and it freaked him he was on the deck for a minute or more. Martin think’s he’s better than he his is, he’s old, easy to hit. I’m up and coming, hungry and fresh. I don’t see why he thinks he can win, I’ve already beat him up every time we ever sparred. I am 100% sure that I will beat him.”
Sean’s last fight was on BoxNation TV and for any young fighter coming up the rankings television exposure is very important. It’s a chance to showcase your talents to a huge audience around the world and get your name out there. Speaking on the exposure Sean said:
“It’s definitely a good thing, but I’ll fight anywhere Ireland, England, f*****g Australia, I guess I’d like to fight more in England at this phase of my career. There is some good Heavyweights over there and people would see me more as well. I’d like to do that. There’s nobody I really have my eye on, I watch all the Heavyweight’s over there. I keep my eye on them all. I want to be fighting guys over there for titles. I don’t want to use them as stepping stones, if it’s going to be a tough fight, you want it to be for a title.”
Sean is a Dubliner through and through. Many fight fans will remember the picture of him at Croke Park on top of Hill 16 with his top off waving his Dublin flag in the past. Sean loves fighting in front of his home crowd:
“It’s exciting and even more exciting to be headlining the show. I can’t wait, especially because it’s in Dublin.”
Sean is improving all the time and told us how he would like the rest of the year to unfold:
“I’d like to have a couple of 6 rounders and a couple of 8’s, then I want the Irish title but I am definitely looking for a title this year. Whether it’s a Celtic Title, Irish Title or Intercontinental title, I just want a belt so I will have to sit down with the MGM management team and see what they have planned for me.”
All things going well on Friday, Sean would like to be fighting again April and has a message for his opponent this Friday, Paul Butlin:
“You better be ready.”
