Light-heavyweight prospect, ‘Sniper’ Sam Smith moved up to 2-0 following a points win over Bryn Wain at the G1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester on February 13th.
The Paddy Fitzpatrick protégé from Guildford, Surrey won his second paid contest on the Valentine’s Day weekend, the referee Jeff Hinds scoring the contest at 37-40 to Smith on a KM Promotions event titled, ‘Unfinished Business’.
Smith said:
“It went well. Definitely a lot more clinical than last time, I had a good start and I really enjoyed it. There was a big improvement from the first fight; I’m learning a lot.”
The 23-year-old victor praised his 19-year-old opponent from Somerset:
“He was a tough opponent, very similar opponent to my debut fight. I came in quite light at 172lbs and he was 6lbs heavier than me. I took the odd shot here and there but this time around it was very one-sided, I used my jab and didn’t get involved. It was only his fourth fight but he’s a lot better than his record suggests.”
The 175-pounder is looking to get straight back into the gym to focus upon his next fight, already booked in for March 12th at the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon, which will provide Smith with his first six-rounder. He concluded:
“I’m looking forward to the next one, definitely six to eight rounds will suit me more. I’m back in the gym on Tuesday doing strength and conditioning and then Wednesday at Paddy’s gym.”
