The former cruiserweight world champion turned Sky boxing pundit is a shining example of the opportunities that fighters can often make for themselves after retirement.

Sheffield’s Johnny Nelson fought his professional fighting career under the guidance of legendary boxing trainer and all round personality Brendan Ingle, but not many realise where it all began for Johnny, along with knowing about his insight that he has now gained into the media side of boxing since retiring from the sport.
Nelson retired from the ring with a record of 45-12-2 (29KO) and was the WBO cruiserweight champion of the world for over seven years, that included 13 defences during his reign, a record currently shared with German Marco Huck.
This week we stumbled across this absolute gem of an interview (below) by a chap called Calvin Morgan, where Johnny touches on:
How he got started out in boxing, his greatest achievement, his lowest moment, the philosophy behind success, his love of the sport, David Haye’s return to the heavyweight division, the exciting current boxing scene in Ireland and the UK, behind the scenes knowledge of what it’s like to transition from boxing to the media world and much more (hat tip to the calvinmorgan001 YouTube account):
