The fight would likely take place at the 168lbs super-middleweight limit, a meeting in the middle for middleweight champion Golovkin and long campaigning light-heavyweight Hopkins.

A week or so ago legendary 51 year old boxer Bernard Hopkins stated that people might be surprised when they find out who his final opponent will be in 2016, the final foe of his long standing career.
News has come out that certainly confirms that notion.
Reports have emerged from Steve Kim of Boxing Scene that suggest Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler has expressed interest in the fight for Golovkin at some point in 2016, after they take care of GGG’s upcoming IBF mandatory defense in April.
Hopkins, a man who has campaigned at 175lbs for the last 10 years since beating Antonio Tarver on points in 2016, would likely have no problem making the super-middleweight limit due to his renowned clean lifestyle and disciplined training regime.
Any potential bout at the 168lbs limit would be a first for Golovkin, but some have already criticized his willingness to take on a man of Hopkins’ advanced years, who last fought in November 2014 when he was comprehensively beaten by Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev over 12 rounds.
One would suspect a potential meeting of these two big names in boxing would create considerable interest however, particularly if the fight was being billed as Hopkins’ last in the ring.
It would continue the almost career trend of Hopkins’ taking on and fighting the best competition of his era, and even more so in this instance at such an advanced stage of his fight campaign.
