26 year old Jessie Vargas won the vacant WBO welterweight title this weekend with a dominant TKO stoppage over previously unbeaten Brooklyn man Sadam Ali in Washington.

Vargas (27-1-10KO) knocked Ali down twice on route to stopping him in the 9th round in what was thought to be a close fight prior to the bout, only for Vargas to dispel any such notion on Saturday night.
After the fight Vargas’ promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank said he’s be happy to put Vargas in there with any welterweight in the world, with a possible showdown with the winner of the upcoming match between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley a likely option.
Vargas previously dropped his only loss of his pro career to Bradley last year (unanimous points defeat) at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California.
