The first right hand that Groves landed stiffened the legs of the previously unbeaten Brophy right in the very first round, with the Londoner’s power evident from the off.
‘The Saint’ used a ram rod jab to set up his attacks as the bout progressed, with Brophy not getting out of the way of shots and bad swelling was appearing over Brophy’s right eye as early as the third round.
Groves tagged Brophy in round 3 with a hurtful body shot where Brophy was clearly in agony, taking him out completely and prompting the referee to wave off the fight.
Groves moved his record to 23-3-0 (18KO) and re-established his world class boxing credentials in many people’s eyes.
