The feared middleweight champion has been linked with a potential fight with Mayweather for sometime, although with Mayweather’s current ‘retirement’ it doesn’t look like a showdown will happen anytime soon.
Gennady Golovkin (34-0-31KO) returns to action on Saturday night when he puts his IBF, WBA (super), IBO and WBC (interim) middleweight titles on the line against unbeaten 26 year old American Dominic Wade (18-0-12KO) at the Forum in Inglewood, California, USA.
Although Golovkin has been on a storm in world boxing since he moved his base to America permanently a few years ago, former pound for pound great Floyd Mayweather thinks a fight with Golovkin would be “easy work” for him if the two ever were to step in the ring.
Golovkin, who recently landed a major endorsement deal with Nike for the Jordan brand, was in jovial form this week on ESPN SN and had the following to say to Mayweather’s remarks among other bits of news:
