The two UK boxers have exchanged words through the media over the past 24 hours, creating a new potential domestic rivalry to the already jam packed British boxing scene.
After Tony Bellew captured his WBC cruiserweight title last night in Goodison Park, Liverpool, he referred to David Haye as a:
“B**** from Bermondsey (London)”.
Haye as many will remember was previously a cruiserweight world champion before he made the decision to move up to heavyweight a few years back, where he then went on to become one of two cruiserweights in history to capture a genuine version of the heavyweight title against Nikolai Valuev in Germany (the other being Evander Holyfield).
Both men stand at around the same height, with similar reach, and Bellew is no stranger to fighting big men himself, having campaigned as a heavyweight in the amateurs.
A meeting between the two at cruiserweight would likely result in a knockout of someone, it would be reasonable to assume.
It didn’t take too long for David Haye to respond to Bellew’s public call out, where on his Instagram account today he replied:
