Canelo Court Case Holding Up Golovkin vs Canelo Talks

The fight the world of boxing is so depserate to see looks like it will take another while yet to come to fruition.

The rumour mill has been in full churn in recent weeks since Canelo knocked Amir Khan out cold, in spectacular fashion, with fans instantly calling for the popular Mexican warrior to take on middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin next.

The fight has been in the making it seems for nearly a couple of years now, at least for how long fight fans have been conversing about it on social media.

But now it seems, both teams that represent each fighter are committed to getting the fight made.

However, a new snag has emerged in trying to get the matchup over the line in the form of an ongoing courtcase involving Canelo and his former Florida-based promoter All-Star Boxing.

Speaking to Marcos Villegas of Fight Hub TV, Canelo’s current promoter Oscar De La Hoya who is involved in the case with his company Golden Boy Promotions, elaborated further on the issue:

“I have to focus on this court case which will end soon. After the case I’m going to call (Tom) Loeffler again and we can negotiate again and continue our negotiations and see how it goes. It all depends on how it starts and how it ends, and then we’ll take it from there. But do I see it this year? It’s definitely a possibility.”

He added:

“A fight of this magnitude, okay, because I can build this fight to be huge so I can get back those fans that Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather lost for us, you know, when they fought. You don’t negotiate a fight of this magnitdude in a week, or two weeks. It just doesn’t happen.”

Canelo is not afraid to fight Golovkin in this writer’s opinion, but the longer these negotiations continue the more and more it is starting to look like next year before we’ll see this cracker.
