Rigondeaux Has A Special Message For Fans That Have Stood By Him

Guillermo Rigondeaux could arguably be one of the most avoided prizefighters of all time, when the boxing history books are written. Certainly of his era.

Due to his copious amounts of skill and hard to beat style, coupled with perhaps at times difficult marketability, ‘Rigo’ has frequently in his pro career found himself standing outside in the cold when it comes to the big fights.

I can recall when he beat Nonito Donaire on HBO a few years back, at a time where Donaire had just won Fighter of the Year, that everyone thought that Rigondeaux had announced himself onto the big time in boxing and more big fights would follow suit.

That wasn’t to be the case however, through no fault of his own.

However the talented Cuban now finds himself travelling to world boxing’s hottest market at the moment (the UK) next month and has had this message for his fans that have stood by him through thick and thin (translation below):

Esta pelea va dedicada a todos los fans que nunca me han abandonado. Les entregaré mi mejor versión. #RigoJazzapic.twitter.com/KwMy0ncNGA

— Guillermo Rigondeaux (@RigoElChacal305) June 13, 2016

English translation:

“This fight is dedicated to all the fans who have never abandoned me. I will give them my best version. #RigoJazza

Rigondeaux is scheduled to put his WBA (Super) super-bantamweight world title on the line against James Dickens on July 16th at the Cardiff Ice Arena in Wales – after getting previous visa issues out of the way.

Here is a quick look back at that night in 2013 when Rigondeaux put on a masterclass against Nonito Donaire and reminded us all of why he is such a special fighter (hat tip to GP productions):
