Joshua returns to the ring next week when he makes his first defense of his IBF heavyweight title against American Dominic Breazeale.
However a showdown with Tyson Fury to unify their respective heavyweight titles and create an all-British heavyweight showdown of monstrous proportions, is the carrot dangling for him later this year it would seem.
Both men have engaged in some verbal back and forth exchanges online and in the media in recent times, but today when questioned by Kugan Cassius of IFL TV if he thought it would be the biggest fight in British boxing – Joshua replied:
“Yeah. I think once the fight is announced and we finally get in the ring it will be massive. I think it will be unbelievable.”
He added on Fury:
“If he was very consistent in what he was saying I would thinking, f****** hell, he’s digging a bit here. But it’s not consistent, one minute it’s one thing one minute’s it’s another. I don’t know him but as long as people are saying when are you going to fight him, I like him, because he’s relevant and it’s something that would be amazing for my legacy.”
Joshua will need to firstly get rid of Breazeale next week though, as will Fury need to get past Wladimir Klitschko in their rematch before this heavyweight bonanza can be made.
