The news of Gennady Golovkin taking on Kell Brook this coming September has sent shock waves around the boxing world today.
The news was officially confirmed by a press release from the promoters of the bout today, and it’s caused twitter to almost go into meltdown among boxing fans.
It had been expected that Golovkin would take on Chris Eubank Jr instead of Kell Brook, which to be fair, I don’t think anyone saw coming.
Chris Eubank Jr has instantly taken to Twitter to let fans know the following, in what seems a rather confusing situation:
I haven’t been shown one contract since my fight with GGG was announced. I’m still ready & waiting to sign. Fighting Brook is a joke #2Small
— Chris Eubank Jr (@ChrisEubankJr) July 8, 2016
Eubank Jr now appears to be out in the cold without an opponent to train for as things stand, although that could all change very soon based on today’s left field announcement.
Perhaps Matchroom Sport will look to get Eubank Jr on the card against someone else to build-up a potential fight with the winner of Golovkin vs Brook.
Chris Eubank Jr’s father was adamant in recent weeks that his son would beat the much feared Golovkin but after all the talk that went on between the two online, we will not now see the pair square off in the ring this year.
Here’s some of the Twitter reaction to today’s shock fight confirmation so far:
