Billy Joe Saunders Reveals What He Was Offered To Fight Golovkin

Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin is really the man of the hour in world boxing news this weekend, which is ironic in a sense, as he’s usually one of the most avoided fighters in the sport.

The reaction to his decision to face IBF welterweight World Champion Kell Brook from fight fans so far has been interesting.

To say the least.

Consensus seems to be that Golovkin should win the fight in a relatively straight forward manner, although fans of Kell Brook are obviously delighted their man has been able to land such a significant fight.

Also for UK boxing fans, there seems to be quite a few that are looking forward to seeing Golovkin visit their shores and have the chance to see the man that currently owns the highest knockout percentage in middleweight boxing history, in the flesh.

One man who has also let his feelings known this week on topics such as Golovkin and Eubank Jr, is none other than current WBO middleweight champion of the world – Billy Joe Saunders.

Some reports had suggested in recent months that Saunders was offered over two million British pound to take the fight against Golovkin, although the WBO champion has revealed that was wide of the mark, with the real number he told one fan being a lesser US dollar amount:

@frankwhiteshaft no 1 half mill dollars but I’m the champ not the British champ

Billy Joe Saunders (23-0-12KO) has been slated to next appear on Canelo Alvarez’ card in the United States this coming September against an opponent to be confirmed.

His last bout came in December of 2015 when he captured the title from previous champion Andy Lee – where he dropped the Irishman on route to winning a majority decision:
