A new player on the world welterweight scene emerged last night as Ghvamichava stops Prescott with an impressive performance in California.
Fighting on a Premier Boxing Champions bill on Fox Sports 1, ‘The Wolf’ (17-2-1-13KO) was intent on taking his opportunity right from the get go, coming out aggressively and pressing the action from the start.
Many boxing fans will remember the big hitting Bredis Prescott (29-8-21KO) from the time in 2008 when he spectacularly knocked out Amir Khan in the UK.
Ghvamichava was not in the mood for sentimentality however, and proceeded to dominate Columbian Prescott on route to forcing a stoppage in round 7.
The win showed just how tough Ghvamichava is, as he had bounced back from a stoppage defeat in his previous outing against Sergey Lipinets in March at the very same venue, with Ghvamichava erasing all memories of that night at the Robinson Rancheria Resort & Casino with his win there against Prescott last night.
Georgian native Ghvamichava (who now resides in Hayward, California) is now 30 years old and arguably in the prime of his career.
A good time no doubt to be in your prime in such a red hot division as 147lbs at the moment.
For those that didn’t have a chance to see the fight, here are the highlights of how it went down via the Premier Boxing Champions YouTube channel:
