Welterweight Dennis Hogan Gears Up For WBO Oriental Title Shot

After a near three year absence from boxing in his adopted hometown of Brisbane, Australia, Irish super-welterweight Dennis Hogan (23-1-1) returns September 10th against Victorian based Cameroonian Samuel Colomban (24-8) in what should be an entertaining fight for the WBO Oriental title.

With it a world ranking, Colomban who Irish/UK fans might remember had an unsuccessful challenge for then Commonwealth welterweight champion Denton Vassell’s belt in the past, has also held multiple regional titles.

He is coming off the back of an impressive win against the highly thought of Ben Capps for the Victorian State title.

With one of Australia’s biggest names in the super-welterweight division and a world ranking in front of him, Colomban will surely be looking to bring that confidence from the Capps bout in to this bout with Hogan and upset the homecoming.

Hogan who travels to Miami this week to link up with new trainer Moro Hernandez, was last out against Angel Hernandez in what was his first fight under the tutelage of his new coach and came away with a unanimous decision win.

He will now be looking to show the improvements that have been made under Hernandez and and show that those improvements can take him back to world level, but never been scared to fight the best in Australia, Hogan will aim himself at Colomban first and foremost – before his team again aim to clean-out the division in Australia.

To do that ultimately they’ll need to go through Rocky Jerkic, a fight that Hogan’s team have been vocal about taking, foreseeing no real problem for the Irishman.

Hopefully if industry whisper is correct, we also see this fight before the end of 2016.
