Carl Frampton has always been proud of his roots and heritage, along with having a healthy Irish sense of humour.
Last night’s victory over three-division world champion Leo Santa Cruz is the biggest achievement in Frampton’s impressive undefeated career thus far, with talks of him now on track of becoming Ireland’s greatest ever fighter being rampant.
With the victory last night Frampton became the first fighter ever from Northern Ireland to win professional world boxing titles in multiple weight categories.
Despite the significance and weight of the feat last night, straight after the match up ‘The Jackal’ still had a light- hearted word or two in his post-fight interview.
When asked what it meant to him to become Northern Ireland’s first ever boxer in history to win world titles in two weight classes – Frampton replied:
“It means hopefully I don’t have to buy a pint for the next 20 years.”
Classic Frampton. No doubt a few pints will be had this weekend and into the coming week.
