Big news has emerged in boxing as Manny Pacquiao to come out of retirement to take on Jessie Vargas later this year.
Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum had in recent times said that the ‘Pacman’ would indeed return to the ring later this year, but Pacquiao himself was then quick to say this wasn’t necessarily the case and that any comeback would have to be worked around his political career in the Philippines.
Then the date of November 5th at the Thomas and Mack Center in Vegas was mentioned for his return, but no opponent was mooted.
It was thought that fellow Top Rank stablemate Terence Crawford would be a leading candidate for the fight after his impressive recent win over Victor Postol, but Pacquiao’s manager Michael Konz speaking to the LA Times has said that it in fact will now be Jessie Vargas and that:
“It’s Manny’s decision.”
So it would appear that Manny picked Vargas himself, more than likely opting for a less difficult style of opponent as compared to the ultra talented Crawford.
Perhaps if Pacquiao is to have a run of fights now that he’s back though, a fight with Terence Crawford could build nicely for next year sometime should the two keep winning.
