The fight purses for Ward v Brand have been released and after reading them, one can’t helping feeling a tad for Andre Ward’s latest opponent – Alexander Brand.
Pound for pound rated Ward takes on Brand at the Oracle Arena in his hometown of Oakland in California in a fight that is expected to be a final precursor for the mouthwatering showdown with division destroyer Sergey Kovalev this November.
The bookmakers heavily favour Ward to get the win against Colombian Brand, who primarily has campaigned in his native country for the most part for his pro career – outside of fights with Medzhid Bektemirov (split decision win), Badou Jack (split decision loss) and Terrance Woods (unanimous points win) that took place in the States.
ESPN’s Dan Rafael revealed the whopping difference in prize money on offer for both fighters’ official fight purses ahead of the bout:
Purses from Oakland: Andre Ward $850k, Alexander Brand $30k. Not a typo. #boxing#WardBrand

When rounded up, that works out as a 96% vs 4% split. No, your eyes are not deceiving you.
The bout will take place live on HBO in the US and for viewers in the UK and Ireland it will be available live on BoxNation.
