In many ways Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua represent the new age of the heavyweight division who inevitably will cross paths as their respective stars within the sport continue to garner momentum.
To that end, we’ve been diligently gathering the opinion of fight fans on something over the last couple of weeks relating to this triumvirate of knockout power.
At the moment in my opinion, Tyson Fury is the best of the bunch as he beat long reigning champion Wladimir Klitschko last November away from home.
But I wanted to consult the opinions of a large selection of boxing fans to find out just who they thought would emerge as the top dog, when all is said and done.
6690 fight fans weighed in with their say. It was relatively close in the votes, but here’s what they think:
IBF champion Anthony Joshua comes in first place with 47% of the votes (3,133), WBC champion Deontay Wilder comes second with 33% (2,193) and lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury comes third with 20% (1,364) of the votes.
It is important to point out that this is just a selection sample size of some fans’ opinions over the last couple of weeks or so, and of course is subjective and open to interpretation.
But it paints an interesting light on the heavyweight division even further for me, showing just how competitive it is going to become between these three in the coming years – at least in the fans’ perception.
2017 is shaping up to be the year that we may see a combination of the above three facing off against one another, with Fury currently tied up with a Wladimir Klitschko rematch at the moment, Wilder out injured and Joshua looking for an opponent.
There’s only one way to truly find out who the best it, and that’s by each of the above fighting one another over the coming years as they come into their primes as heavyweight prize fighters.
