Errol The Truth Spence Living Up To His Nickname

‘The Truth’ is more than just a nickname when you talk about Errol Spence Jr.

The 2012 Olympian keeps making statements with each fight.  It was just a year ago he was calling out the top guys in his division and they all ignored him.

He really put himself on there radar by becoming the first fighter to stop Leonard Bundu this past weekend.

Bundu, a tough contender, his only defeat before that has came by Keith Thurman. Due to his awkward style he was supposed to significantly test and make it an ugly fight for Spence.

In reality, he wasn’t able to do either for the young fighter.

Spence is known as a strong fighter with great skills but his best strength displayed on that night for me was his patience.

He took his time using his jab and body punching to break down his opponent, showing maturity inside the ring beyond his 26 years of age.

With this victory he has earned a shot at the IBF title which is currently held by the UK’s Kell Brook.

In a recent interview he stated he had no problem fighting Errol Spence.  The only issue is he has his hands full with middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin on September 10th.

During the 30 day weigh in for that fight Brook came in at 176 pounds, almost 30 pounds over the 147lbs welterweight limit which he would need to get back down to fight Spence.

Judging him by that weight, he may not be able to make the 147 pound limit where he holds a title, or at least not without a lot of difficulty that could give Spence an advantage on the night.

If Brook can no longer make weight there are very few note worthy opponents in the IBF rankings for Spence.

In fact, in the top 10 there is only Lamont Peterson and Andre Berto that really stand out at present in the IBF rankings.

With Berto rumoured to be Danny Garcia’s next opponent that just leaves Peterson.

I think the next logical opponent for Spence would be to go in with Shawn Porter, who earlier this summer he lost a close decision to Keith Thurman.

Porter’s aggressive style will surely translate to a fan friendly fight with Spence.

One thing is for sure, while his next opponent might be in question – Errol Spence is without doubt a big future star in boxing.
