The UFC star is currently basking in the fruits of his labour following his recent win over Nate Diaz at UFC 202.
Conor McGregor has become a global phenomenon in the combat sports industry in recent years, to the point that this year in particular, he has began to even become more and more linked with mythical match ups with professional boxers.
Some of whom (such as Canelo Alvarez) have taken swipes at him recently. But despite this apparent rapid rise to success, it certainly didn’t happen over night.
McGregor is a man who comes originally from a working class background in Dublin, Ireland and spent years going around different gyms to learn his craft in the beginning, originally starting out as an amateur boxer before mixed martial arts gyms became more accessible where he was from.
Outside of his extroverted exterior there is a man that knows difficult times, like most successful people in life do, who came from very little and knows the value of hard work in terms of it’s clearly massive payout for him at the moment.
One of my favourite McGregor quotes I heard from him when he just burst onto the scene a couple of years ago was:
“I didn’t have a pot to p*** in back then. Now I have a few pots.”
It’s this sense of humour and positive attitude in the midst of the struggle over the years that has to no surprise, made him what he is today.
Another interesting part of the McGregor story has been his girlfriend and long-time partner Dee Devlin from Ireland, who can be seen with McGregor virtually everywhere he goes.
The two were together long before McGregor made it as a world class fighter and gives an insight into McGregor’s loyalty to those that stuck by him when he was starting out, crediting Devlin for a lot of his success today.
In his latest social media post to garner big reaction online, Devlin can be seen standing in one of their new properties with this simple but powerful caption in the Irishman’s tweet:
