Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez is recognised by most publications as the number one pound for pound fighter in the world.
With all of the praise and recognition he receives now, it’s still hard to believe just two years ago he was a virtually unknown quantity in boxing.
The talented Nicaraguan power puncher became a YouTube sensation, seemingly over night. The new popularity led to him being added to Gennady Golovkin “big drama” shows as the co-main event.
They will fight on the same night of boxing action once again this Saturday September 10th and Gonzalez will move up in weight, in the hope of becoming the first four division champion from Nicaragua.
He will face WBC super-flyweight champion Carlos Cuadras. Although he is moving up in weight and Cuadras is also undefeated, Gonzalez is the clear favourite in most people’s eyes.
Along with being on the verge of becoming a four division world champion, he’s also close to achieving another significant milestone.
If Roman Gonzalez wins on Saturday his record will improve too 46-0. Just four fights away from the magic number 50.
At the age of 29, this little big man is continuing to prove he is the the next big thing in boxing.
