Roman Chocolatito Gonzalez made history for his country last night in the sport of boxing after recording a unanimous points victory over Mexican Carlos Cuadras.
With the victory Gonzalez became Nicaragua’s first ever four-weight world boxing champion after the unbeaten maestro captured titles at strawweight (minimum weight), light-flyweight, flyweight and now after last night (WBC) super-flyweight.
Gonzalez improved his awesome record to 46-0 (38KO) now just three fights behind equalling Floyd Mayweather and Rocky Marciano’s records of 49-0.
He handed two-weight world champion Carlos Cuadras 35-1-1 (27KO) the first loss of his career in the process too, in what was an all action 12 rounds at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
The official scorecards read out 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113 in favour of Gonzalez when all was said and done, with few having complaints that the right man got the decision.
After the fight Cuadras commented on how “relentless” Gonzalez was, a fighter who seems to never stop throwing punches from start to finish.
But Gonzalez didn’t have it all his own way in the fight, far from it, in a truly compelling battle to watch for fans and journalists alike:
What an epic, I think that’s better than Vargas-Salido this year…going to judges. I have @chocolatitobox winning 116-112.

Cuadras was more than happy to exchange fire with fire throughout the bout and for the first time in a long time, Gonzalez sported a marked up face after the fight.
With the win Gonzalez firmly cements himself as the current number one best pound for pound boxer in the world at the moment.
Time will tell if anyone at all can challenge this precocious fighting machine in the ring.
