Billy Joe Saunders: Triple G Spot I’m Ready To Rock and Roll

Billy Joe Saunders is upping the ante in a big to secure a world middleweight unification showdown with the much feared Triple G.

After last weekend’s victory over Kell Brook, Gennady Golovkin (aka Triple G) currently is weighing up a number of options – one of which being a mandatory defence of one his titles following the WBA (World Boxing Association) ordering that he must now face Daniel Jacobs.

The only way in most instances that a fighter can get out of a mandatory obligation is because of a world title unification fight, which usually takes precedence.

But then again, this is boxing, where common convention and logic sometimes have a funny way of going out the proverbial window.

But Golovkin and Saunders is undeniably a good fight, a genuine unification at 160lbs and following the profile Triple G would have gained at the weekend in the UK after his appearance on pay per view against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, one that could make sense to happen in the UK.

Here’s what WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders has had to say on Twitter about it:

Saunders has an upcoming fight himself to worry about next month against an as of yet unnamed opponent, but provided he comes through that with a win and injury free, perhaps a Golovkin showdown in December in the UK could be a real early Christmas present for boxing fans.

Style-wise, Saunders in my opinion certainly has some of the boxing skills necessary to ask questions and frustrate Golovkin for a period in the fight, but like everyone else, it’s whether or not he can keep off the relentless power of Triple G – a gifted boxer in his own right when he does choose to display his skills.

With BoxNation now offering a box office (pay per view) functionality on their dedicated boxing TV channel, perhaps this would also be a great opportunity for them to further push the new service after the upcoming Tyson Fury vs Wladimir Klitschko rematch next month.

Fingers crossed all involved can get this fight over the line.
