Danny Garcia Laughs Off ‘Cherry Picker’ Jibes

WBC welterweight world champion Danny Garcia has spoken out on claims recently from fans pertaining to him being a cherry picker.

Garcia has been fairly inactive this year since capturing the WBC title at 147lbs back in January over Robert Guerrero at the Staples Center in LA, when he won a unanimous points decision on that particular night.

Since then, Garcia (32-0-18KO) has been linked with numerous fights including Andre Berto and Manny Pacquiao. Even a Floyd Mayweather showdown was mooted at one point, but still, nothing has come as of yet.

It is now mid September and Garcia has yet to have defended his title that he initially won back in January.

The 28 year old has come in for some flack from fans as a result for being too picky or for want of a better phrase, a ‘cherry picker’.

The man from Philadelphia has laughed this off on Twitter:

It’s ether I’m a cherry picker or they Think Ima lose, and then I win ?????

It probably won’t win over too many fans but then again, maybe that’s what he wants, the old Floyd Mayweather model of getting fans to tune in to watch you lose and drive TV ratings that way.

Whatever the case might be, Garcia has remained undefeated throughout the years despite a couple of close calls in some fights where many disputed that he should have got the win.

But at 28 and in the prime of his boxing career, now is the time to see this talented fighter step into some dangerous fights on a more regular basis.

The likes of Keith Thurman, Errol Spence Jr or Kell Brook (if he remains at 147lbs) would all be great fights and the first two would be very easy to be made in particular, given the fact Thurman and Spence both fight on Premier Boxing Champions like Garcia also does.

Here’s what happened the last time Garcia was in the ring against Guerrero in case you missed the fight:
