An Anthony Joshua Joseph Parker showdown is set to to be the next foe for the current IBF heavyweight champion of the world.
Rumours online had been swirling around in recent days that it would be Hughie Fury next for Joshua, who’s fight with Andy Ruiz (a story that we initially broke) fell through recently.
However his promoter Eddie Hearn poured cold water on that fight today when speaking to Sky Sports, mentioning that an “unrealistic number” was asked for in negotiations, not making the fight possible for the time being at least.
Speaking on Sky Sports today Hearn said that instead New Zealand’s Joseph Parker is now the man he expects next for Londoner Anthony Joshua:
“All being well I think Joseph Parker will be the guy for November 26th. We’ve got a few things to tie up but their team are relatively easy to work with.”
He added:
“Right now, Joseph Parker is definitely the number one choice.”
A Parker and Joshua fight has been mooted for some time as having potential and in many ways, it represents the coming together of two of the new generation of heavyweights in professional boxing.
Granted, Joshua has been the more impressive in his career to date, but has also been afforded more opportunities and exposure at the same time.
Parker is a hungry, quick, powerful fighter and will be up for this big time – if the opportunity does come off.
Speaking in recent days with Kugan Cassius of IFL TV, promoter Eddie Hearn mentioned that Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev was also offered the fight with Joshua, but like many others Hearn claimed – priced himself out when it came time to sign a contract.
The Hughie Fury and Anthony Joshua fight no doubt will still exist down the line in the future one would have thought, although it is likely cousin to Hughie and recognised lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, will face Joshua first after it was revealed recently that Wembley stadium has been booked for Anthony Joshua next July in a fight aimed at either Fury, Deontay Wilder or David Haye.
Exciting times for the heavyweight division once again.
