How Is Pound For Pound Boxing Ranking Established?

I have often pondered how the pound for pound boxing ranking list is decided. Each time one is published it sparks a tremendous diversity in our perception of who has been included and who has been omitted.

I decided to experiment with a points system awarded to the generally accepted top five.

I have limited this to a four year period because it has always been my opinion that recent activity should be a key factor.

A fighter who was at the top of his game, but for whatever reason, is inactive for an extended period, will be awarded fewer points in the activity segment. My points award include marks out of 10 for the following:

1. Overall record.
2. Activity within the period September 2012 to September 2016.
3. Quality of the last 4 opponents. (This part is my assessment and therefore open to criticism)

#1. Roman Gonzalez. Record 46 – 0 – = 10

Activity over 4 yrs – 14 fights = 10
Quality of last 4 opponents :-
Sosa 8 – Vlora 9 – Mcwilliams 6 – Coadios 10 = 33
Overall score = 53

#2. Kovalev. Record 30 – 0. = 10

Activity over last 4 yrs – 12 fights = 10
