Andre Ward still fighting for recognition despite at one point been considered by some to be the best fighter in the world not named Floyd Mayweather.
He is an Olympic gold medallist and former unified champion at super-middleweight. Currently he’s undefeated in 30 professional fights.
Even more amazing is he hasn’t lost a fight since he was 12 years old. With that being said, he still comes in as the (slight) underdog in upcoming fight against light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, in my opinion.
Kovalev is also undefeated in 30 professional fights as it happens. He has been able to overwhelm opponents with his power and underrated boxing skills.
This will undoubtedly be Ward’s toughest fight.
Even though he’s had a great career and beat the best in his division, a win over Kovalev should silence naysayers one would imagine.
Over the last few years his biggest bouts have been outside of the ring against former promoters and injuries. The inactivity led to harsh criticism from fans, going as far as to question if he really wanted to continue his boxing career at all.
Fast forward to right now however and Ward has a new promoter, moved up to a new division and appears to be on the up and up again.
But this hasn’t come without any controversy of course, as boxing likes to do.
Up until the fight was officially signed many believed he would find a way to back out, which in this era of boxing some fighters find a way to avoid fighting the best and instead opt to fight lesser competition for safer money.
However Andre Ward is a different breed, make no mistake about that whatsoever.
On November 19th he looks to prove without doubt that he is the best fighter in the light-heavyweight division and if he wins, become arguably the pound for pound best boxer on the planet.
