Eddie Hearn: Anthony Joshua Wants Klitschko Next

Promoter Eddie Hearn is adamant that IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua wants Klitschko fight next, as well as Wladimir wanting the fight too.

As the days continue to go by the more and more likely a November 26th showdown between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko looks more and more possible.

But there are no guarantees in boxing.

Joshua’s mandatory contender Joseph Parker won today in good fashion in New Zealand and he also remains a possible foe for Joshua next.

However, conversations seem to be going very positively between Joshua and Klitschko’s handlers and an announcement is expected very soon either way for Joshua.

Speaking to Sky Sports news on Friday Eddie Hearn said:

“When they used to spar together probably three years ago I used to look at pictures and I thought perhaps one day, in my opinion, it’s a fight with the star of the heavyweight division Anthony Joshua and one of the greatest heavyweight of the modern era in Wladimir Klitschko.”

Touching on Joshua’s desire for the fight:

“It’s a fight he (Joshua) really wants. If the WBA belt is on the line which I believe it would be, it’s a unification fight between Joshua and Klitschko. The deal has got to be right of course.”

Hearn concluded:

“From Anthony’s part I believe he wants the fight, well I know he wants the fight and I know Wladimir Klitschko is up for the fight as well.”

With today being October 1st as things stand, the longer this goes on the more unlikely in my opinion a Joshua vs Klitschko fight will happen for November 26th, as the turnaround time needed to promote a pay per view fight of that magnitude gets slimmer and slimmer from a time frame perspective.

But it’s not impossible, mind you. I always think with these big fights a healthy dose of skepticism is a good thing if boxing history is anything to go by anyway when it comes to getting them made and over the line.

Never say never though.

All the talks have been positive thus far and Eddie Hearn’s words above are certainly indicating things are getting close.
