Today’s Tyson Fury retirement announcement looks like it has been a hoax perpetrated by the colourful heavyweight from the UK.
It could go down as one of the shortest retirements in professional boxing history, all three hours or so of it.
Who knows what is going through Fury’s mind at the moment, as he puts out random messages on Twitter amid some serious allegations that have been levelled at him at the moment, as well as recent reports that he has been suffering from mental health issues.
The ‘Furious One’ as he likes to refer to himself sometimes, has sent out these messages on Twitter a short time ago to put things back in perspective:
Hahahaha u think you will get rid of the GYPSYKING that easy!!! I’m here to stay. #TheGreatest just shows u what the Medea are like. Tut tut

Which was then shortly followed by:
Soon as I get better I’ll be defending what’s mine the heavyweight thrown. pic.twitter.com/LaUjlg4dB2

He seems to have pulled the wool over a lot of people’s faces today, including some very large media outlets, knowledgeable writers and fans alike.
At the time of the announcement earlier today however, I did mention that I thought it was to be taken with a pinch of salt.
No doubt Tyson Fury has stirred up considerable free press for himself today with his online efforts.
He has admitted in one of the tweets above to needing to get better, which now at this point, does back up all the reports recently that indeed he has been suffering with health issues.
The coming week will be very interesting from a boxing perspective when it becomes more clear what will happen with Tyson Fury’s heavyweight titles, if indeed he cannot defend them within the time period the governing bodies will require.
The heavyweight division is blown wide open up once again.
