A Ricky Burns vs Adrien Broner Fight Could Make Sense Now More Than Ever

Ricky Burns vs Adrien Broner has long been a fight mooted, going back to the days when both men were lightweights. But for one reason or another it never came to life. That might all be about to change however.

Burns recorded his latest victory in the ring last night by edging out an extremely impressive Kiryl Relikh to win a hard fought points decision win in Scotland.

Attention afterwards quickly turned to who might be next for the WBA super-lightweight champion, with talks of a possible showdown with American Broner bringing a smile to the champion’s face, who noted he enjoyed going to Las Vegas on his vacations and that a big fight there was something he wants.

A few years have gone by since both men were initially linked with one another, but now might be the perfect time to make the match.

Burns brings a world title to the table and Broner has recently put a lot of his outside the ring, legal troubles behind him it seems.

Both are now more seasoned warriors and multi-division world champions too.

Broner looks to have put his troubles behind him

Burns’ promoter Eddie Hearn and Broner’s manager / adviser Al Haymon have long enjoyed a positive working relationship so in theory, you’d have to think it’s a fight that would not be too difficult to make.

I can’t see Broner travelling to the UK though. But with Burns’ wanting to fight in Las Vegas, perhaps this adds further positive vibes to making a potential showdown.

Broner last fought in April in the same division (140lbs) when he defeated Ashley Theophane, so both he and Burns are currently competing in the same weight class too.

It would create an intriguing match up stylistically – pitting the flashy Broner against the conventionally orthodox but highly effective Burns, not to mind pitting very different personalities against one another that would make for an interesting build-up.

Ricky Burns vs Adrien Broner is certainly a fight I’d watch. A three-weight world champion against a four-weight world champion is never a bad thing.
