UK boxer Amir Khan speaks on social media about the injury that has plagued him for a remarkable amount of time during his professional fighting career and details the successful outcome of recent surgeries to correct the problem.
A boxer’s hands have to be the most important part of their body given the fact they are essentially the tools of their trade, the ‘modus operandi’ for their chosen profession as it were.
Many fighters through the years have suffered with bad hand problems. Two that spring to mind in recent times for me would be Joe Calzaghe and Floyd Mayweather.
Both fighters in the second half of their careers (give or take) punched with considerably less power as a consequence of this and as a precaution to keep protecting the tools of their trade.
Amir Khan has spoken of similar problems over the bulk of his pro career. Here’s what he had to say on his recent surgeries:

Physically as a fighter Khan has always been wicked fast, racking up a significant number of stoppage wins in the earlier part of his career through overwhelming opponents with blistering combinations.
Now, if he can add some punching power behind that speed with his hands fixed, despite constant questions surrounding his punch resistance, there is no doubt he can comeback after his crushing knockout at the hands of Canelo Alvarez and still at least be involved in some big fights in the sport.
