Report: Gennady Golovkin Won’t Fight Until 2017 Now

It has been reported that middleweight division kingpin Gennady Golovkin won’t fight until early next year now. It was initially thought he would be fighting Daniel Jacobs on December 10th.

This will be disappointing news for many fight fans but the silver lining is that it looks like the bout will take place in early 2017.

Mitchell Abramson of Ring Magazine has reported the following on Twitter:

@TomLoeffler1 says that @GGGBoxing will not be fighting on Dec. 10. He’s going into 2017 with expectation he’s facing @DanielJacobsTKO next.

This will mark a frustrating year for Golovkin (36-0-33KO) overall that saw him box twice in total. Both performances were stoppage wins over the UK’s Kell Brook and American Dominic Wade.

If there are any positives to take out of the year for Golovkin, while he did not get the big fights at middleweight he and fans want, he did get to go to the UK for a significant pay per view event on Sky that gave him a great deal of new exposure in the booming British boxing market.

He also maintained and extended his knockout streak and middleweight title defences run that is seeing him quickly approach Bernard Hopkins’ middleweight title defences record at present.

The enigma that is Gennady Golovkin continues.
