Badou Jack vs James DeGale will take place in early 2017 for the WBC and IBF super-middleweight world titles.
Englishman DeGale had been in talks with Jack for sometime about a potential fight but today it was confirmed that the bout will take place on Showtime January 14th with a venue to be confirmed.
The two share the same manager in Al Haymon so it seemed inevitable that they were going to be able to work out a deal at some point.
DeGale is promoted by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Sport in the UK while Jack is promoted by Floyd Mayweather’s Mayweather Promotions in the US.
Showtime have brought out this promo video today on their YouTube channel to announce the fight:
An excellent world title unification matchup between two of the top tier 168lbs fighters in the world and with Andre Ward recently moving up to light-heavyweight, you could say that this fight’s winner will represent the best super-middleweight on Earth.
DeGale last fought back in April when he defeated Rogelio Medina by a unanimous decision while Jack’s last outing in the ring came on the same night when he fought Lucian Bute to a majority draw.
January is shaping up to be a big month in the US for boxing already with Showtime also confirming that Carl Framtpon and Leo Santa Cruz will rematch on January 28th after their highly entertaining world featherweight title battle earlier this year.
