Lucas Browne vs Shannon Briggs next up? Quite possibly.
News of a potential Lucas Browne vs Shannon Briggs fight for a version of the WBA heavyweight title has broken today after recent weeks of speculation surrounding what is going to happen with the organization’s heavyweight titles given former super champion Tyson Fury’s vacating of his belt.
Still no official comment has come just yet from the World Boxing Association themselves, but Briggs said himself today that he’s confident of it being his next fight.
Good news for Shannon if true, but at the moment we are still waiting for an official announcement from the WBA – which seems to be taking a while after the recent collapse of the Wladimir Klitschko vs Anthony Joshua negotiations for a fight in 2016.
Team Klitschko want a version of the WBA title on the line to make the fight in the new year following a minor injury to Klitschko recently.
Likely this would be for the ‘Super’ version of the WBA heavyweight title and this match mooted by Briggs would most likely be for the ‘Regular’ version of the belt.
One would have thought.
This can confuse fans at times in terms of all the different belts out there but hopefully today’s news from Briggs above is indication that an official announcement from the WBA on the whole situation is now very imminent.
