This moment of madness from Puerto Rican super-featherweight Juan Manuel Lopez last night is up there for one of the craziest moments of 2016 in boxing.
Before the fight our own Peter Wells predicted an entertaining battle but I think we can safely say no one could have forecast the madness that was to ensue after last night’s fight between Juan Manuel Lopez and Wilfredo Vasquez Jr.
The matchup was an all Puerto Rican showdown in the 130lbs weight class and took place in Coliseo Roberto Clemente, San Juan in the both men’s home country of Puerto Rico.
Lopez (33) recorded an 11th round TKO victory in the end in what looked to be a big win for him, but then all of a sudden moments after stopping his opponent he went after Vasquez Jr’s trainer.
This prompted both men to go at it and cause a full scale ring invasion:
It’s unclear as to what could have caused these crazy scenes in the first place, particularly after the fact that Lopez had just scored a big win which is usually cause for celebrations.
However it was good to see both opponents finally embrace afterwards when all the chaos had settled down.
The win improved Lopez’ record to 35-5 (32KO) while Vazquez Jr. dropped to 24-7-1 (19KO).
