Golovkin vs Pacquiao Could Happen At 154lbs According To GGG Trainer

A Golovkin vs Pacquiao fight seemed out of the realms of possibility from ever happening. Mainly due to the sheer size disparity between both fighters. But Gennady Golovkin’s coach Abel Sanchez has hinted that he would be open to it in the future at a catchweight.

Recently we spoke to Gennady Golovkin’s promoter here who told us that Golovkin will fight three times in 2017 . Next up for ‘GGG’ will be number two middleweight in the world Danny ‘Miracle Man’ Jacobs.

Provided Golovkin gets past that fight, it is then hoped that the super fight with Canelo Alvarez will become a reality next year.

But if ‘GGG is to fight three times in total in 2017 that still leaves room for a potential Golovkin vs Pacquiao fight. As far fetched as it might seem from a weight perspective.

Not the case however according to Golovkin’s coach Abel Sanchez. He told ES News that it is not beyond the realms of possibility at super-welterweight (154lbs):

“I think Manny would deserve that too (154lbs catchweight) not because we’re greater. Manny would deserve that because he’s got a history of been great. He’s a Hall of Famer. You bow down to that and you do what’s necessary. I don’t think less than 154lbs is possible but 154lbs is a weight that could be done. There is no way that I would ever suggest anything lower than that.”

Interesting thoughts from Sanchez.

Of course, the fight remains a highly distant possibility when one really looks at it for a variety of reasons.

But nonetheless, it is intriguing to know that Golovkin’s trainer would at least consider his man moving down a weight from middleweight at least.

Pacquiao and Golovkin have their hands full in their current weight classes for the time being. But judging from Sanchez’s latest opinion it does not seem impossible that the two could meet one day before retiring.
