Bernard Hopkins Breaks Down Ward v Kovalev

Few are perhaps more qualified to call and analyse the Andre Ward v Kovalev fight than Bernard Hopkins. A man who has shared the ring in the past with Kovalev, still an active fighter himself (incredibly at the age of 51) and a knowledge base on the sport that is pretty much unrivalled.

Hopkins himself is due to have the final fight of his legendary career next month in California against New York light-heavyweight Joe Smith Jr.

Before that however he is has been drafted in by the folks at HBO on analyst duties ahead of this weekend’s big fight in Las Vegas between Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward.

Hopkins speaks here on how he believes the Andre Ward v Kovalev matchup will go down and what both guys need to do to win the fight:

An interesting take from the ‘Executioner’ on the keys to victory for both men in this weekend’s light-heavyweight world title showdown.

His prediction on the two possible outcomes of the fight are probably the same as a lot of people.

But you just never know in championship boxing at this incredibly high level, where one fraction of an inch can often make all the difference.

Particularly given the fact the winner of this Ward v Kovalev fight will in most people’s eyes be the new pound for pound best boxer in the world.

This Saturday literally represents the very highest level in the sport of boxing.

Maybe Ward’s power might surprise Kovalev or maybe Kovalev’s boxing skills might (slightly) surprise Ward. There are a lot of variables that could come into play.

Kovalev’s coach David Jackson has been adamant all week that his man has the ability to win a points decision and outbox Ward.
