Andre Ward on Mayweather vs McGregor if it does materialize – speaking ahead of his own massive fight this weekend against Sergey Kovalev.
Ward is now in the final stages of preparation for the biggest fight of his life when he faces Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev in Las Vegas this weekend (check out the fight purses for the fight this weekend here).
It’s a fight that is being viewed as one of the most compelling of the year in boxing due to it involving two of the sport’s very best pound for pound fighters in the world today.
Former pound for pound number one boxer Floyd Mayweather has been linked heavily with a potential boxing match with UFC Irish fighting sensation Conor McGregor – as everyone knows as of late.
Speaking on a potential fight between the two, Andre Ward had some interesting remarks at the final press conference for his fight with Sergey Kovalev.
Andre Ward on Mayweather vs McGregor;
“Because he’s fighting the best. He’s fighting the best. It’s not a good idea at all. He needs to leave that alone. Of course on the flip side if Floyd went to the Octagon you’d have to go with Conor McGregor. But I mean, I wouldn’t mind seeing it. I respect Conor for doing it, you know calling Floyd out, but I think Floyd has to be careful too. Obviously a lot of this stuff is just for publicity and in some respects he (McGregor) is just using Floyd’s name for different things like that. Floyd’s a legend so he’s (McGregor) got to be careful and not just jump in there.”
Whether or not the fight will actually happen remains to be seen.
Mayweather for the most part has been very dismissive of the bout this week but as we all know in boxing, anything can happen. You just never know.
McGregor for his part is currently basking in the glory of his recent UFC 205 success at Madison Square Garden:
Good bye New York and thank you. Another chapter written in my storied career. God bless. pic.twitter.com/doTnbt5qbN
